Who Else Agrees With Me On This?

Hi!

Okay, we feel so contemptible for a fish during many (not all) house pet stores! The betas have been in small, really little cosmetic bowls or in little cosmetic bags, as well as a fish have been approach over crowded. And infrequently they have passed bodies in their which have been their for months, as well as a alternative fish have been eating off of! And it is so dirty!

I know which betas can live in little conditions, though gosh, have we seen those bags!? The beta can’t even float in there!

Who else agrees with me?

  1. They don’t have dead bodies there for months, or they’d just be bones, lol. It’s normal for fish to eat dead fish, but I agree with you. Pet stores need to be more responsible. Thing is, as long as they’re making money, they don’t care. The fish don’t matter, you don’t matter, all that matters is the money. Corporate greed runs everything today. It’s sad. I love finding reputable stores that know about their fish, and keep them in good conditions. Sad thing is, the only one around here like that went out of business. Ridiculous isn’t it? Then they give you BS info like "oh don’t worry the Pacu will only grow to fit the bowl" And sell you Green Spotted Puffers as freshwater fish. Ugh. I hate chain stores with incompetent employees.

  2. yeh in australia we hav these pet stores called pets paradise

i went in and looked at some gold fish and i walked up to the girl and said
"hey um you hav a dead fish in there"
then she said ok and went over like a few minutes later and got it out.

i feel sorrry for all animals in a petshop!
    i hate those shops
    !!!!!!!

  3. Absolutely agree! There should be laws against mistreatment of fish, as there are for mammals and birds, but until there are, the money-grubbers get away with it.

I looked at the fish in the tanks at a certain big chain store a few days ago. The display tanks were about 10-gallon size. In one of them, there were about 40 fantail goldfish, approx. 3 inch size, half of them were piled up dead/dying against the filter intake, and several of the remaining fish were wobbling toward the same fate. In another tank, there were some fish that had been dead for days, half eaten. They have some larger goldfish that have been at this store for months, and they have sores and fin-rot, and sometimes visible parasites.

If you bother to complain, you first have to wait while somebody is paged to come to the pet department, and then deal with whoever shows up, and you can bet most of them don’t know much about aquariums or fish!

I don’t know why I even look! Morbid curiosity?

At least the local pet-shops here take good care of their tanks.

  4. "Okay, I feel so sorry for the fish at most (not all) pet stores! The betas are in small, very tiny plastic bowls or in small plastic bags,"
it’s not profitable to keep them in their own 5 gallon display tanks.. but a breeder net in a display tank would be better, a few stores around me do this

"and the fish are way over crowded."
again economics, they need to sell in volume, besides most of the fish are out of the tanks within a week

"And sometimes they have dead bodies in their that have been their for months,"
HIGHLY unlikely.. even in a tank of just neons a body will not last more than a few days.. and this is not 100% the stores fault, shipping is stressful on the fish, not to mentions the unknown living conditions at the wholesaler/cartel

"and the other fish are eating off of! And it is so dirty!"
the systems they employ for the commercial racks are massive, and there is a LARGE sump hidden in the back room, i guarantee you.. improper maintainence however is another story all together

"I know that betas can live in small conditions, but gosh, have you seen those bags!? The beta can’t even swim in there!"
    already covered

    "Who else agrees with me?"
me, to an extent. the extent of perspective….

you can either do away with this hobby, pay $15 for a single neon tetra, or accept the necessary evils…

you cannot however have it all ways…

  5. nowadays all ppl care about is making money. humans are making profit off of animals suffering. sadly with all the ridiculous laws today theres not much we can do about it

  6. I do agree with you the fish is handled in purely commercial way without any ethics or rules, that includes selling of dyed fish which should be boycotted and criminalized by laws..

  7. Hi, I totally agree with you. Betta’s do live in small conditions in thailand but seriously! I think that they should stop selling fish because most are sick or as you said, die and then get eaten by other fish. I once saw a big goldfish with lots of tiny fish and the tiny fish were biting it so I told the people at the store. They really should stop.
